This week on Unwired Appalachia, Randy is joined by members of the Paintsville volleyball program for a special conversation about a historic achievement, a record that has come full circle and the bright future ahead for one of Eastern Kentucky's standout student-athletes.
Joining Randy are Paintsville Volleyball Head Coach Dawn Kinner, Assistant Coach Megan Taylor and senior standout Kylie Kinner, who recently made Kentucky high school volleyball history by breaking the state's all-time career kills record.
What makes the accomplishment even more special is the connection between Kylie and her assistant coach. The record was previously held by Megan Taylor, a former Paintsville standout who now serves as an assistant coach for the Lady Tigers. Randy talks with Kylie and Megan about the significance of the milestone, what it means to the Paintsville program and the unique experience of seeing a record passed from a former Lady Tiger to a current standout she now helps coach.
The conversation also turns to Kylie's future as she prepares to continue her athletic career at Morehead State University, where she has committed to play both basketball and beach volleyball. Randy and Kylie discuss the opportunity to compete in two sports at the collegiate level and what lies ahead after her high school career.
They also touch on Kylie's remarkable athletic accomplishments and her potential to be a leading candidate for the 15th Region's nominations for Kentucky Miss Basketball and Miss Volleyball, two of the state's most prestigious individual high school sports honors.

Over in Class 2A, Floyd Central travels to Knott County Central for another important district matchup, with a potential No. 2 seed hanging in the balance.

Things are heating up as the Unwired Appalachia Weekly Walkthrough returns for Week 9 of the Kentucky high school football season.
Randy breaks down another important slate of games across the mountains, with district races and playoff positioning taking center stage as the regular season begins to wind down.
One of the biggest matchups has Pikeville traveling to Paintsville for a huge district showdown. With postseason positioning on the line, Randy takes a look at what to watch when the Panthers and Tigers meet under the Friday night lights.
There could also be history made at East Ridge. The Warriors take on Shelby Valley with an opportunity to set a new school record for wins in a season and put themselves in position to host the first home playoff game in program history.
A win would put East Ridge in position for the No. 2 seed in Class 2A, District 8, barring Shelby Valley defeating Belfry next week.

Randy, Braxton and Coach Keathley also talk about what it means to come from the mountains of Eastern Kentucky and carry those roots with him wherever basketball takes him. This week features a showdown between two Class A powers as Pikeville hits the road to take on Raceland. Randy looks at what to expect as two programs that have become familiar rivals meet again in an important early-season matchup.
He also previews a battle in the trenches between Class 2A Belfry and Class 4A Johnson Central. The Pirates and Golden Eagles are two programs known for physical football, setting the stage for one of the most intriguing matchups of the week.

We’re wrapping up the football previews on Unwired Appalachia with a special look at one of Eastern Kentucky’s biggest high school football traditions — the 41st Annual Community Trust Bank WYMT Pike County Bowl.
Randy is joined by Community Trust Bank Pikeville Market President Brett Keene to talk about everything that goes into making the Pike County Bowl happen each year. Keene takes Randy behind the scenes of the event, including the committee responsible for selecting the matchups, organizing the weekend and bringing schools and communities together for two nights of football.
The two also break down all four games on this year’s schedule. Friday night at Belfry features Pike Central vs. Martin County at 6:05 p.m., followed by Louisville Central vs. Belfry at 8 p.m. Saturday, the action moves to Pikeville with Phelps vs. Shelby Valley at 6:05 p.m. before Prestonsburg vs. Pikeville closes out the weekend at 8:35 p.m.
That finale brings some extra history with it as Pikeville and Prestonsburg renew their rivalry after a 10-year break, providing a fitting finish to the 41st Annual Pike County Bowl.
